Topic Description

This panel will address how progress can be achieved in the areas of women’s empowerment, gender equity despite the gaps and challenges that exist in Africa. These barriers will look at the barriers to the achievement of gender equity and social justice e.g education, access to resources, employment opportunities, and representation in decision-making levels.


Amina Oyagbola is a Corporate director and versatile business leader, a former Human Resources and Corporate Services Executive at MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.

With over 35 years of experience working in key sectors of the economy including, legal consulting, banking and finance, oil and gas, telecommunications and business administration.

She is the managing consultant of AKMS Consulting, a partner at Oyagbola Chambers, Founder and Chairperson of WISCAR (Women In Successful Careers- a leadership and structured mentoring network for professional women).

She is a Chartered Fellow of CIPD UK, Fellow, Institute of Directors (IoD), a Certified Ethics Officer, Former Chair and fellow, Africa Leadership Initiative- West Africa and member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. She is a Chevening Scholar and 2019 recipient of the prestigious HR People Magazine, Lifetime Achievement Award and ALTON award for her contribution to the Telecommunications Sector in Nigeria.

She is a strategic business adviser, legal and HR consultant, transformation expert and stakeholder manager, adept at creating innovative solutions to complex business problems and re-engineering company processes to improve the overall business performance of organisations. She is a gender advocate and passionate about diversity and inclusiveness. She serves as a Director on several Boards.

Mrs. Eme Agha


Dr Habeeb Salami

Global Director, Pathfinder Internatinal


Dr. Salami is a medical doctor with a specialization in obstetrics and gynecology and a strong bias for preventive and social medicine.

He had his medical degree (MBBS) and MPH from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and membership of the West African College of Surgeons (faculty of Obstetrics & Gynecology).

He also has a Certificate in Project Management (CPM) from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa and a Certificate in Design, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation of International Health Programs (CDIME) from the Boston University School of Public Health, Massachusetts, USA.

He has gathered extensive hands-on experience, over 15 years, in project management, conceptualization and implementation of interventions aimed at enhancing health status, and monitoring and evaluation of health programs, and over 10 years of clinical practice as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist. He was a member of the Core Team (and Team Leader to Song Local government area) that conducted the Adamawa State Integrated Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Needs Assessment survey; the project coordinator for Developing Strategic Plans for Federal Tertiary Health Institutions in the South-East and South-South zones of the Country by the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria. He also provided technical assistant to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency on the Global Fund Round 8 AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria health facility assessment for Health Systems Strengthening, and Consultant to the Taraba State Health Systems Development Project II End of project assessment.
